Dear Evan Hansen is an award-winning musical that first premiered at the Arena Stage in Washington, D.C in July 2015. The performance went on to open on Broadway at the Music Box Theatre in December 2016. Based on a book by Steven Levenson, the story follows high school senior Evan Hansen and his struggles with social anxiety disorder, which cripples his ability to make friends. After one of his classmates passes away, Evan fabricates a lie that allows him to finally fit in, giving him a purpose while bringing him closer to the classmate’s family. The musical received critical acclaim, and has won multiple Tony Awards.
